Analyze That is a sequel, so it made
sense to return to the town where
Analyze This was shot. This time around,
the crew filmed a full 15 days in a different Montclair home.
“It’s always a challenge to bring the circus into suburbia,” says
Maria Bierniak, the second film’s location manager. “It’s all
about communicating with neighbors, keeping everyone
informed of the daily filming schedule, making sure everyone
has access to their homes, and doing everything possible to
keep their routines on track. You strive to make sure that
you’ll be invited back after filming is complete. You want to
be welcomed when you knock on the door again.”
This dark comedy, based on the Chuck
Palahniuk novel, was not only filmed partially
in Montclair, but at several other Essex County
locations, including the defunct ESSEX COUNTY
HOSPITAL CENTER in Cedar Grove. Scenes in
which Sam Rockwell’s con artist fakes choking
were filmed at local restaurants MESOB and
NORI SUSHI. “We could do the shot in one
day, because they’re a couple doors down
from each other,” says Louis Zuppardi, a
New Jersey native and the movie’s location
manager. ➤
