For example , three residents with expertise infood selection , preparation and presentation offer strategies and shortcuts in “ Holiday Dining : The Secret Sauce .” Deborah Schapiro , our savvy Gift Guide contributor , presents local vendors ’ clothes and accessories to answer the eternal question ,“ What are people wearing this year ?” Julie Johnson of Cakeaholic Obsession shares acupcake recipe that will get raves at classroom and office parties . And just for fun , North Caldwell ’ sPatricia Levinson takes usbehind the scenes atthe Macy ’ sThanksgiving Day Parade .
But lest we focus too much on emblems of the holidays , our interview with Stephan Talty (“ Chronicling the Courageous ”) adds perspective , and reminds usto be thankful . The author ofnumerous fiction and nonfiction titles , Talty was the ghostwriter for “ ACaptain ’ s Duty : Somali Pirates , Navy SEALs , and Dangerous Days atSea .” His recent collaboration , “ Under the Same Sky : From Starvation in North Korea to Salvation in America ,” tells the story of teenager Joseph Kim , his improbable solo escape into China , and his determination to go back and find his sister , who was sold into slavery .
