dental services for over three generations. “I practiced with my dad, and
before that he practiced with my grandfather, so the practice goes back to
1946,” says Dr. David I. Ferguson, who has headed the practice since
1997.
“My dad was always forward-thinking, looking at what new technology
and new procedures had to offer patients. So from the beginning of my
career I felt intrigued and challenged to evaluate new procedures and
technologies as they come along. I am deeply committed to identifying the
best products and services that will enhance our patients’ experience and
care.”
Dr. Ferguson received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy at The
Johns Hopkins University, graduated first in his class at the University of
Maryland Dental School, and completed post-graduate training at York
(Pa.) Hospital. He is the recipient of many awards for excellence in
periodontics and preventative dentistry and was named Attending of the
Year at Mountainside Hospital. In addition, Dr. Ferguson is on the dental
staff of Mountainside Hospital, and is active in the Western Essex Dental
Association, where he has served as president. He is also a member of the
American Dental Association, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry
Academy of General Dentistry, and is a Fellow of the Academy of General
Dentistry. He has also received the Warner Lambert Award for Excellence
in Preventive Dentistry and the Quintessence Award for Excellence in
Periodontics.

Dr. Ferguson makes a point of keeping up to date in the latest
developments in dentistry and periodontics. “There are two things that
have been revolutionary changes in the way that we do things,” he says.
“One is CAD/CAM (computer-aided design and computer-aided
manufacturing) procedures. Now we can scan the teeth with a camera
rather than taking impressions, and fabricate the restoration in the office.
So it’s a short, one-visit procedure for a crown. We’ve been doing it for
over 10 years, and the technology keeps improving.
“The other thing,” he adds, “is dental implants. That’s something that I
fully embraced early on in my career. Utilizing our 3D extraoral x-ray
machine, we are able to provide the full spectrum of services necessary for
successful implant procedures in the comfort of our office.” Beyond
investing in state-of-the-art dental technology, Dr. Ferguson’s commitment
to professional training in innovative new procedures, such as the Chao
Pinhole Surgical Technique, allows him to provide his patients with the
best and most advanced dental care available.
Dr. Ferguson is supported in his practice by three experienced hygienists
and has recently welcomed a new associate to his expanding practice. “I
genuinely enjoy that for the first time in 50 years, there’s a non-Ferguson
dentist in the practice; Dr. Jessica Joseph. She is an active member of the
community and brings unique talents and skills to our practice. Dr. Joseph
has an exceptional way with children and compliments the pediatric part
