TOP DENTISTS Dr. Joseph D. Chikvashvili ADVANCED ENDODONTICS | 100 NORTHFIELD AVE. | WEST ORANGE | (973) 731-4800 | WWW.NJROOTCANALS.COM IN 2005, DR. JOSEPH D. CHIKVASHVILI MADE A LIFELONG COMMITMENT AND bought a 50-year old endodontics practice – the oldest in New Jersey – from a well-known endodontist. Pledging to carry on the good work handling “the hardest of cases,” Dr. Chikvashvili’s sound reputation is reflected in his practice’s wide patient base, with individuals traveling from as far as Florida, Vermont, Pennsylvania and Upstate New York. Dr. Chikvashvili is acutely aware of the trepidation patients experience when faced with the prospect of undergoing root canal therapy. “That fear is a throwback to the medieval dental practices of long ago,” he says. “Any pain that patients experience really stems from the need for the actual root canal treatment, not from the procedure itself.” As one of the first in NJ to use new revolutionary technologies, Dr. Chikvashvili credits 3-D cone beam computed tomography for magnifying and illuminating problem areas helping him pinpoint hidden root canals. “This technology has helped make the therapy simpler and less likely to cause discomfort,” explains the Director of Endodontics at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. A resident of Montclair for over a decade, Dr. Chikvashvili values a strong sense of community. He volunteers at various charitable organizations, and participates in a program that provides free dental services for the underserved. After graduating from the University of Maryland, College of Dental Surgery in Baltimore, Dr. Chikvashvili completed his residency training at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and worked one year in private practice. Realizing his devotion to helping people in pain and saving teeth, he made the decision to specialize in endodontics and pursued his graduate training at Boston University’s Goldman School of Dental Medicine where he received his Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies (CAGS). To further broaden his scope of expertise, in 2013 he completed a two-year course and received a certificate in dental implantation. Dr. Chikvashvili states, “Despite our best efforts, there are situations where a tooth can’t be saved. I want my patients to know that I can offer them another option.” In keeping with his philosophy to impart goodwill on his community, Dr. Chikvashvili shares the same viewpoint in his work, where he serves as Vice President of the New Jersey Association of Endodontics and takes pride in his affiliation with Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. “My role in this outstanding program is twofold as it allows me to educate and mentor new dentists and keeps me on top of the latest advancements,” Dr. Chikvashvili explains. Dr. Chikvashvili and his dedicated longtime staff understand that pain can occur at any time and make themselves available to their patients early mornings, late at night and even weekends. “Whatever is needed, we are here,” he added. 86 MONTCLAIR MAGAZINE BACK TO SCHOOL 2016 SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION
