caring surgical oncologist, Dr. Vivek Maheshwari. His calm, compassionate
demeanor has eased patient’s anxieties for the last 20 years and his unique
expertise and research has saved many lives. Specializing in gastrointestinal,
breast and endocrine cancers, Dr. Maheshwari has his own practice,
Professional Associates in Surgery, and is on staff at Short Hills Surgery Center.
In medical school at the University of Delhi, Dr. Maheshwari realized his
passion for surgery and chose oncology because of its intricacy and complexity.
After medical school, Dr. Maheshwari completed his Surgical residency at New
York Beth Israel Medical Center. He was awarded a fellowship in Surgical
Oncology at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Maheshwari is affiliated with St.
Barnabas Hospital and ranks as the one of the highest volume surgeon. He also
has privileges at Overlook Hospital. Dr. Maheshwari is most proud of the
recognition he has received twice from the General Surgery Residency Program
at St. Barnabas where the graduating residents choose a single surgeon who has
made the greatest impact and contributed most to their training. “I get a great
sense of fulfilment when residents-in-training come to my office to observe and
learn,” says Dr. Maheshwari. “Any bit of knowledge and experience I can
impar t that will aide future physicians, brings gratification and meaning to my
life’s work.” Last year, Dr. Maheshwari was awarded recognition by the St.
Barnabas Obstetrics and Gynecology Surgery Residents Program for his work
with the residents in that field.

Top Drs. Jonathan W. Ditkoff and Joshua M. Gould are board-certified ophthalmologists
and fellowship trained specialists in their respective fields. Dr. Ditkoff, a cornea specialist,
has more than two decades of expertise in dry eye, laser vision correction, including LASIK
and PRK and all forms of corneal disease. Dr. Gould, a glaucoma specialist uses the latest
medical, laser and surgical treatments to preserve the sight of his patients with glaucoma.
Dr. Gould performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgery including the iStent, a tiny device
designed to improve eye pressure when implanted at the time of cataract surgery.
All the doctors at the Eye Care Center of New Jersey perform cataract surgery using the
latest techniques and intraocular lenses. Dr. S. Jerome Holtz, a board-certified
ophthalmologist and the founding partner of the practice, has performed over 12,000
cataract procedures.
Completing the Eye Care team are Dr. Danielle Strauss who specializes in medical and
surgical treatment of retinal disease, Dr. David Chen who performs oculoplastic and
reconstructive surgery and Dr. Thomas Conroy an optometric physician and head of our
contact lens department.
