ART-FILLED EAT-IN KITCHEN
Kass’ cheery kitchen is highlighted by
souvenirs both domestic and foreign. The
blue mason jars were decorations at her
elder son’s wedding, while the little blue
boat dish is African, and made of papiermâché. Kass, a painter herself, studied with
a woman who created the two works on
the wall to the right of the table by treating
the canvases with sand, then applying oil
paint over them; together, they depict the
woman’s rooftop, before and after a party.
The painting to the left of the table comes
from a show at the hotel where she was
staying, and was done on newsprint; the
same artist made the images above the
blue chairs in her bedroom. The light fixture over the kitchen table reminds Kass of
the style of director Tim Burton, and was
purchased somewhere in the U.S. ➤
