MOUNTAIN MEMORIES
Mother-Daughter Time
By Carol Cady
Well...spring is here and summer is on its way and its “Fishing Time” in the Rockies!! I
know…I know…you can fish pretty much year round here, but those warm, hot, lazy days of
summer make summertime fishing to die for! With a cooler full of cold drinks, another
cooler full of food for an army and a camera in hand…you head out for one of the many
wonderful lakes we have here in Western Montana.
Meeting my daughter Amy
Lynn at McGregor Lake, she
whips the boat around (with
great skill I might add) and backs down to the waters edge and out into the
lake. As I stand in knee deep water guiding the boat, she is saying
“Mom….further out…further out”! I have to keep reminding her of the fact
that she has only one mother…and I’m out as far as I’m going to go!!!
We have launched and loaded the boat and are on our way! And I must
admit, I’m always amazed at her skill at handling the boat and when fishing
this particular lake. She says, ”We’ll go this direction….be about this far from
shore and drop our line so deep!” Well, not to worry…wham the fish hits the
bait and we are reeling in our first fish of the day, a really nice big Mac. You
sure can’t beat that feeling of a fish pulling on your line.
I do have to reveal here that she had a
“GREAT” teacher, her grandfather who was
more than skilled at fishing that lake. So,
with the music turned up…(yes, we have
great music in the boat) we spend the whole
day and into the evening enjoying this
Montana paradise. With Mother’s Day this
month take time to get out and spend time
with your kids and teach them about the
outdoors. If you don’t know much about it
pal up with other outdoor women and learn
together. Make it a girls day out!
Happy Mother’s Day!
