On a bright Wednesday morning, Supervisor Eric Mar, the Office of Economic and Workforce Development, Department of Public Health, and Mayor Ed Lee all celebrated the transformation of Palou Market in the Bayview into a healthy food retailer! HealthyRetailSF is an incentive-based, voluntary pilot program for local business owners of corner stores, to have access to the tools and resources they need, along with focused attention from experts, to develop a business model that allows them to introduce and integrate healthy food options. The program’s ultimate goals are to increase access to healthy food, engage local residents in decision making processes, reduce unhealthy influences, and stimulate economic development and job creation.
