Endorsed by the US Conference of Mayors last summer, San Francisco is the last stop on VSP Eyes of Hope 10-city tour where volunteer doctors will provide comprehensive eye exams aboard VSP’s mobile vision care clinic. The goal of the tour is to bring free vision services and eye glasses to homeless persons and low-income communities. The clinic also features a finishing lab so that residents, some of whom may have never worn glasses for corrective vision before, can receive their frames and lenses the same day. As Mayor Ed Lee is someone who wears glasses himself, he recognizes the importance of an annual eye exam as it is critical to not just to update annual prescriptions, but also because it could help detect high blood pressure, diabetes and other health issues. VSP is the largest vision providers in the country. The brand started in San Francisco and is now headquartered in Sacramento. The City’s Health Services System vision plan is through VSP.
