The theatre you can visit today was meticulously designed to replicate the 4irst Globe as
closely as possible. It is made entirely of English oak, and it has the only thatched roof
permitted in London since the Great Fire of 1666. The plays themselves are put on without
the use of modern theatrical inventions and conventions such as spotlights and
microphones, in order to simulate an authentic Elizabethan theatre experience. If you ever
have a chance to attend one of the summertime plays put on there, the environment you
encounter will be the closest possible to that of a real Elizabethan play.
