Self help means depending on own ’ s resources like hard work and determination to reach your goal . The man who sits with folded hands and depends on other for help never achieves anything in his life . Self-help can be done by individuals and can also be done by nations . There are many virtues which are the outcome of this means . A man can lift his standard of living from poverty to prosperity by this means . If a student depends on himself and does hardwork , the he can succeed in his life . Self help is the pathway to glory . A nation can get freedom from slavery , and ignorance by these means . The great persons of every nation know the importance of self help . A nation which always depends on others for help can ’ t get progress . Alexander , The Great used to saddle his own horse , Thomas Alva Edison did not hesitate in mixing with his workers in factory . Abraham Linoln would polish his own shoes . It is right to say that “ God helps those who help themselves ”.
The story tells us about two friends who were walking through a desert . During some point walking through a desert . During some point of the journey an argument took place between them , and one friend slapped the another on his face . The friend who got slapped was hurt , and so he wrote on the sand “ Today my friend slapped me on my face ”, without saying anything .
They kept on walking until they found an oasis , where they decided to take a bath . The one who had been slapped got stuck in the mire and started drowning , but the friend saved him . After he recovered from the near drowning he wrote on a stone “ Today my friend saved my life ” without saying anything .
The friend who had slapped and saved his friend asked him , “ After I hurt you , you wrote in the sand , but now when I saved your life you wrote on the stone , why ?” The friend replied , when anyone hurts us , we should write it on the sand of time where the winds of forgivness can erase it away . But when anyone does something good for us , we should write on stone , where no wind can ever erase it . The other friend was speechless .
Moral : Do not give importance to small things you come across in your life . But value the persons who you have in your life .
