TOMORROW’S
LEADERS
TODAY
Leadership Lackawanna’s Tomorrow’s
Leaders Today (TLT) Program recently
celebrated its Graduation Recognition
Ceremony at Lackawanna College in
Scranton. This program is proudly
sponsored by NBT Bank.
TLT develops the leadership, interpersonal
and managerial skills of high school juniors
and provides real-world experiences
in the areas of philanthropy, non-profit
organizations and community service.
“The 34 high school juniors in this year’s
program embody the type of youth
leaders that northeastern Pennsylvania
needs,” said Nicole Morristell, director of
Leadership Lackawanna. “These students

The philanthropy component of the
program was created and presented
by the Scranton Area Community
Foundation. Since adding philanthropy
to the TLT curriculum 15 years ago, more
than 65 local non-profit organizations
have received grants through this unique
and educational partnership. The
TLT students serve as an allocation
committee to decide grant recipients for
the Foundation, and this particular grant
cycle criteria had four areas of interest –
veterans, substance abuse and domestic/
child abuse. The students picked those
areas based on what they believed to be
concerns in northeastern Pennsylvania.
The 2017 TLT/Scranton Area Community
Foundation grant recipients each received
$2,000 and are as follows:

•

In addition, by uniting with local non-
profit organizations, TLT students learn
how to understand, appreciate and
experience community service. Each
student interviews a local non-profit
director and prepares a presentation
explaining the organization and what
they learned about it. In total, the
TLT Class worked with following 12
