Regional Journalists Host Discussion
Veterans Graduate from
Manufacturing Skills Training
Program
The Northeastern Pennsylvania
Industrial Resource Center (NEPIRC),
in partnership with Lackawanna College,
recently graduated area veterans from
its Accelerated Manufacturing Career
Readiness Program, which prepared
veterans for placement in high-demand,
well-paying manufacturing jobs. The training
was available free of charge to local military
veterans.
The curriculum was based upon input
from more than 30 regional manufacturers
seeking to add to their workforce. As a
result, a mix of technical and interpersonal
skills was covered in a blended adult-learner
format of classroom time and application.
The training also included manufacturing
plant tours and supplemental online
learning. Training was provided by NEPIRC’s
staff of experts, Lackawanna College
faculty, and Tooling U-SME.
The Pennsylvania News Media Association,
The Scranton Times-Tribune and the Department
of Communication of The University of Scranton
recently sponsored a panel discussion about
“Trust, Credibility and the News.”

National Recognition
The Wright Center for Primary Care
Clarks Summit has been named a
Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
and Prevention 2017 Million Hearts
Hypertension Control Champion.
The designation is a result of the
organization’s commitment to heart
health and proven success in helping
patients maintain healthy blood pressure
levels. Twenty-four organizations across
the country were recognized; The
Wright Center is the only organization in
Pennsylvania to be selected.

Recognized for Donate Life
Challenge
Commonwealth Health and two of its
hospitals have been recognized by The
Hospital and Healthsystem Association of
Pennsylvania (HAP), the Center for Organ
Recovery & Education (CORE), Gift of Life
Donor Program, and the Pennsylvania
Department of Health (DOH) in the 2017
HAP Donate Life Hospital Challenge.
Commonwealth Health has been designated a platinum-level health care system, while
Wilkes-Barre General Hospital earned a platinum designation and Regional Hospital of
Scranton earned a gold designation among individual hospitals.
The Pennsylvania Donate Life Hospital Challenge encourages Pennsylvania hospitals
to increase organ donation awareness and designations within their hospital and
community. Hospitals are acknowledged for their efforts—the awareness and
designation activities are captured on a scorecard for participating hospitals to achieve
platinum, gold, silver, and bronze level recognitions.
