Start an activity you actually like . Trying to get fit through an activity you hate doing will set you up for failure . You can push yourself to do it for a while , but if the enjoyment is not there , you will end up quitting . If you don ’ t like running , try indoor cycling . If you don ’ t like exercising by yourself , find a workout buddy .
A little exercise is better than no exercise . Most of us have an all-or-nothing mentality when it comes to fitness and we think that if we don ’ t end up breathless and dripping sweat after a 60-minute workout , it ’ s not worth doing it . However , just doing a medium-intensity workout for 10-15 minutes every day is a great way to stay in shape . Exercise for 10 minutes at home while watching television , or along with your family .
Have realistic expectations . I used to have very unrealistic goals . I lost five pounds after my first week of eating healthy and working out . As a result , I thought that I could lose 50 pounds in 10 weeks . I learned that weight loss is never linear . Some weeks you can lose more than others , and the more you have lost , the slower it gets . Focus on the big picture , and don ’ t stress about the numbers .
Be patient and forgiving . The pounds and inches will not drop immediately . It will take time , but if you ’ re persistent you ’ ll get there . One of the reasons most people quit is because they think they have failed and blame themselves . If you couldn ’ t stick to a strict exercise regime or diet , who cares ? Pick yourself back up and keep going . You ’ re not a failure until you stop trying .
