Steve Paterson President & CEO League City Regional Chamber Recovery, an opportunity presented Councilman Keith Gross made an astute observation about the disaster facing our city at the Emergency League City Council Meeting on August 31st. He stated and I am paraphrasing, “we should probably have another budget work session and look at the investment into preventive structural projects to avoid or help with future disasters.” We could not agree more. The League City Comprehensive Master Plan Task Force made up of chamber of commerce members, city staff and elected officials has been developing a “white paper” for the entire City Council to review. After eight months, we are close to that presentation. Its purpose from the beginning was to help our community control and guide its development, so we can maintain the quality of life and services that we currently enjoy. Components of the plan include recommendations on transportation, infrastructure, planning and zoning, ordinances, economic development tools and processes as well as recommendations on future land use and development, especially on the west side of town. If there was ever a time to implement and structure a Comprehensive Master Plan for our City it is now. Weaknesses have been uncovered. Out of adversity comes opportunity for those with vision. Those who can see that vision and grasp the opportunities when they are presented, can truly help their city. Now is the time to take the current taskforce, which is in place and has done a lot of heavy lifting already and expand its mandate to include disaster recovery and prevention to its agenda. We would be remiss at this point not to make this suggestion. The City like any well-run organization needs to plan for its future. There are two futures, the one that we can predict and the one we do not yet know. Your business community is ready, willing and looks forward to our continued partnership with the city and assisting in that planning process as we move forward. Together we can succeed, because we are all League City proud.
