MD Anderson Bay Area Cares for the
Region’s Patients Now & in the Future
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center’s
team in the Bay Area continues to deliver unparalleled
cancer care to patients living and working in Southeast
Houston and the surrounding area, while building its new
outpatient clinic in League City.
Currently located in a low-rise medical office building
located at the corner of NASA Road 1 and St. John Drive
in Nassau Bay, MD Anderson in the Bay Area provides
integrated and multidisciplinary medical oncology,
radiation oncology, surgical oncology and supportive
care services. Our clinical team treats a wide range of
cancers, and many MD Anderson faculty, physician
assistants advance practice nurses and care providers
have specialties in breast, thoracic, head and neck, skin,
colorectal, endocrine, neurologic, gynecologic and
genitourinary cancers.
MD Anderson in the Bay Area also offers on-site,
outpatient lab services, rehabilitation therapy, cancer pain
management, clinical nutrition, genetic counseling,
plastic and reconstructive surgery, and nurse navigator
services. The location also provides access to a variety of
clinical trials.
Each patient has the added benefit of integrated and
multidisciplinary care, which is MD Anderson’s signature
approach to care that has been a constant throughout the
institution’s 75-year history in Houston.

Allcorn completed almost all of his treatment, including
chemotherapy and radiation, at MD Anderson in the Bay
Area. He said the convenience of being treated near his
home, work and family helped him maintain a degree of
normalcy. Staying close to home, while still getting MD
Anderson’s standard of care, was a “blessing for all,” he said.
About one year from now, MD Anderson’s new facility about
eight miles away from its current location in the Bay Area will
open. Now under construction on the League City campus of
The University of Texas Medical Branch, the building will
stand adjacent to the new UTMB hospital and outpatient
clinics.
MD Anderson’s new four-story building will house a full
complement of oncologic diagnostic imaging; a woman’s
breast screening and diagnostic clinic; clinical space for
multi-specialty medical oncology, surgical oncology,
radiation oncology and treatment; infusion therapy;
laboratory services; rehabilitation services; and supportive
care.
In 2015, MD Anderson and UTMB announced a first-ever
clinical collaboration between the two Houston-area UT
System institutions to provide care. The collaboration is part
of UT System Chancellor William McRaven’s initiative to drive
more efficient and improved health care for Texans.

Aaron Allcorn was one of the MD Anderson in the Bay
Area patients who especially appreciated the
multidisciplinary approach to care. He liked that his
medical oncologist, Amy Hassan, M.D., discussed his case
with colleagues to develop the best possible course of
action for his diagnosis of B-cell lymphoma.
“The multidisciplinary approach gives an extra order of
magnitude to a patient’s comfort,” said Allcorn. “It isn’t
just one person’s best judgement. Rather, it’s a team of
experts who are looking at just me.”
