THOUGHTS  FROM  THE  PUBLISHER   For  BeKer,  Or  Worse    For  the  second  9me  in  the   magazine’s  history,  I  panicked.  Not  a  subtle   moment  of  self  doubt,  but  a  full  blows,  wake   up  in  the  middle  of  the  night,  swea9ng  and   struggling  the  breath  anxiety  aHack.  Later   that  morning  I  stared  at  blank  desktop  pages,   certain  of  only  one  thing  –  I  had  truly  lost  my   way.    I  searched  Internet  resources,  I   reviewed  past  magazine  issues,  and  yes,  I   even  went  to  the  local  library  and  buried   myself  in  the  self  help  sec9ons,  including  the   “Everything  for  Dummies”  sec9on  (and  by  the   way,  I  applaud  anyone  with  the  courage  to   read  ANY  book  labeled  as  advice  for  dummies   in  broad  daylight  in  public  seRngs).    Ul9mately,  my  salva9on  came  in  the   form  of  a  seminar  on  magazine  design  and   edi9ng  that  started  out  promising  enough,  as   the  instructor  guided  us  through  step-‐by-‐step   detailed  pointers,  asking  aVer  each  change,   “Now,  is  that  beHer  or  worse?”  AVer  almost   a  solid  hour  of  this,  I  could  honestly  no  longer   answer  that  ques9on,  un9l  I  looked  over,  in   horror,  and  realized  that  with  the  new   improvements,  my  magazine  looked  like   EVERY  other  magazine  being  designed  that   day.  Who  in  the  world  would  really  want   that.  Worse,  I  decided.  Much  worse.    Brian  Thornton,  Publisher   Modern Model Page 2 PUBLISHER    Brian  Thornton      WRITERS        Whitney  Duque/  Felisha  Nicole/ Phoenix  Rain//V7S
