MODERN BUSINESS
Key Behavioural Patterns
that Impact Personal and
Team Success
By Warren Kennaugh
M
ost of us what to be
successful. But how do we
achieve that? How do we
know we are in the right place doing
the right thing? Some suggest that
we should ‘follow our bliss’ - find
something we are love and the
‘money will follow’. Others suggest
a more rigorous assessment of
skills and talent. Or perhaps it’s a
little of both.
I’ve worked with elite performers
in sport and business for 23 years.

I have to admit that for many
of those years I believed that
the gifted amongst us were just
special in some way. They either
had a natural talent or they were
incredibly determined or both. I
felt sure that if I looked I would
find a set of key behaviours that
determined personal and team
success. So, to prove my theory
I started an in-depth research
project where I profiled thousands
of elite performers. I focused my
research on sport because elite
performance in this context was
easy to determine and objective
- each of the individuals I profiled
had represented their country in
their sport.
Guess what?
Success is Bespoke and
Unique
There is no psychological profile or
set of characteristics, behavioural
strategies or personality traits that
under-pin top flight performance!
