n Sunday 21 May, 30,000 people will
take to Durban’s scenic promenade to
participate in the city’s biggest outdoor
sporting event, the Discovery East
Coast Radio Big Walk. Hosting three
walking distances – 5km, 10km, and
20km–the event promises to be even more enjoyable with
the introduction of a 5km run.
“We are delighted to be hosting the Discovery East Coast
Radio Big Walk for the ninth time,” says Dinesh Govender,
Chief Marketing Officer at Discovery. “Durban is widely
regarded as one of SA’s most active cities, so we are excited
to be introducing a 5km run to the event for the first time, to
encourage participants to push themselves a little further.”
East Coast Radio’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu, noted
that the exciting addition of the 5km run is in response to
requests by the public. “The Discovery East Coast Radio Big
Walk has grown in leaps and bounds in its 13-year history
and we thought it was time to introduce a new element to
help the people of KZN meet their changing fitness needs
and interests. The 5km run will be a new and welcome
challenge for those that want to pick up the pace, and we’re
excited to see it become an integral part of the event in the
years to come,” she says.
Whether you want to spend time with the whole family, play
catch-up with friends or bond with your work colleagues,
this annual event brings people together from around the
province in a celebration of Durban’s natural beauty. After all,
we are all sole mates.
