SKECHERS As the official Footwear and Apparel Sponsor for Standard Bank Ironman South Africa, Skechers South Africa was thrilled to be present at the Standard Bank Ironman African Champs in Port Elizabeth in early April, not only as a supplier and partner in the event, but also a sponsor of selected athletes. O ur Skechers performance range is a major new addition to our offering, and being new to the South African market, our ultimate goal is to earn credibility amongst the performance community of running, triathlons, race walking, etc, and this is the perfect platform for us. Specifically, the partnership with Standard Bank Ironman South Africa means that for the next three years, Skechers will be supplying Standard Bank Ironman South Africa with finishers’ T-Shirts, staff T-shirts as well as staff footwear. For this year’s event, we also selected four triathletes across all levels, including two first-timers, to represent the brand during the expo and on the ‘run’ leg of the triathlon, and we weren’t disappointed, as all four finished strongly: • Gavin Mofsowitz – Finished 5 th in his age group (30-34) wearing GoRun4’s, and received a 70.3 Ironman World Champs slot for next year’s event in Port Elizabeth • Darren Lang – Finished 15 th in his age group (25-29) wearing GoMeb Speed3 • Jono Dicks – Completed his first Ironman wearing GoMeb Speed3 • Robbie Gien – Completed his first Ironman and broke his PB wearing GoRide5 • Pro-triathlete and coach with MyTrainingDay Travis Johnstone is in talks with Skechers SA regarding sponsorship. Aside from the local Skechers-sponsored athletes, there was a sizeable international contingent of Skechers athletes hailing from the UK and France. All in all it was an extremely successful trip, which included a complete sell out of our Skechers GoRun5 shoe, product education and a number of brand conversions.
