Article BY HELLE MATHIESEN Q | What does the unique collection contain? A | Almost everything! Amongst other items a suit, a cocktail dress, an evening Sara Brunn Buch and Jørgen Simonsen Photo: Mads Krabbe Fotografi Q/A HORNVAREFABRIKKEN X JØRGEN SIMONSEN dress, a coat and underwear. And of course a large range of jewellery. Q | What has been the most challenging part of the cooperation? A | Clearly, the material. I have never work- ed with horn before – I have seen it used for buttons, that’s all. The challenge is that the material is not particularly flexible once shaped as wished, which has led to an exci- ting creative process where I worked very closely with Sara Brunn Buch. However, we established a great cooperation right away, so it went well. I admire her profoundly for her skills and ability to work in detail The Danish Haute Couture designer Jørgen Simonsen has been visiting his homeland Denmark to develope a unique collection in horn. The collection is designed in close collaboration with the artisan Sara Brunn Buch from Hornvarefabrikken. with only one material. Working with Sara became a strong motivation in the creative process - along with a fascination of the horn as material. It is so beautiful and at the same time exceptional strong and very durable. It is conducive for a design process to see how another industry works - it opens up new facets of craftsmanship that you have never seen before. Q | How has your upbringing in Struer in Denmark affected your creative life? A | It has developed my imagination! A safe childhood in a small town did not neces- sarily give me much direct inspiration, so stimulation had to come from my imagi- nation. My upbringing has facilitated my creative power and in this way it has been an important factor for what I have achie- ved as a fashion designer today. 42 | ISSUE NO 01 JANUARY 2019 | MODEBRANCHEN.
