PRESIDENT'S

REPORT

Dr. Bryan M. Rogoff - MOA President

Reflections

It seems like just yesterday that I became President of the

MOA, a role that has been more rewarding than I could ever

have imagined. Today, as my term comes to an end,

I wholeheartedly believe that together we have made a difference over the past two years.

As I prepare to step down in December, I ask myself two questions that I assume all leaders ask before handing over the reigns. Did I improve the overall situation for those I was elected to serve? And, will I be leaving the organization I have led in good hands? Is it is with great pleasure and humility that I can honestly, and unequivocally, answer both these questions with a resounding YES!

The MOA as an organization is stronger than ever. Our membership and grassroots network continue to grow as a result of the effective leadership of our Board and each MOA Society. We have met (if not exceeded) most of our financial and legislative goals over the past two years because of member engagement and support, and the support of our partners. Thank You ALL!

Looking Forward

Just five years ago, a modernized Maryland scope of practice seemed like a pipe dream; but not anymore. With the help of our two dedicated lobbying teams at Venable LLC. and Harris, Jones & Malone significant strides were made during negotiations with medicine and ophthalmology over the summer and fall months. Although there are no guarantees in politics, I strongly believe that 2018 will be our year in the General Assembly!

I know that the road to scope expansion has been a long one, paved with the blood, sweat and tears of many. I implore every doctor who practices in this State to think about what it has taken to get this far, and to please do your part when called upon in the upcoming months so we can cross the finish line with a victory during the 2018 Session. Despite the progress we made, now is not the time to slow down - quite the contrary! We need to be prepared for anything and everything, which requires us to be stronger, more organized and better funded than ever before.
