Paraoptometric UPDATE
By Rosemarie Lobley-VanZant, CPOT, CPO
Continuing the “Year of Big Things”. . .Optometry’s
Meeting stopped in Washington D.C. this summer
and the theme of the year was Advocacy –
students, Paras and ODs stormed the Hill on
various days advocating for several causes that
would not only help Optometry but also help us
protect our patients.
If you were able to attend Optometry’s Meeting –
there was a Para Idea Exchange and Social Event that drew a great crowd from all over the country. The Maryland Para Section sponsored a gift bag filled with several Maryland themed items for the annual Para giveaways at these events. There were
also several joint OD/Para classes
that were well attended and that will
be continuing in 2018 at
Optometry’s Meeting in Denver.
Don’t forget that Annual Convention \ is coming up – December 2-3, 2017
at the Delta Hotels Baltimore Hunt
Valley!
Speaking of Annual Convention – how many of your staff are trained to handle a medical emergency in the office? Make sure to sign your staff up for the joint OD/Staff CPR class that is being offered by one of the MOA’s sponsoring partners – Delmarva Emergency Training Concepts, LLC – on Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 7:30 am – 8:50 am. There is special pricing available for members and discounts available for multiple staff members – to sign up contact Cheryl Frazier at [email protected] or 410-486-9662.
Remember that signing up your staff is considered a member OD benefit – meaning it’s absolutely FREE for your staff to join the MOA Paraoptometric Section! Educated staff is an investment in YOUR practice, which is ultimately an investment in YOUR profession and lends an additional sense of credibility to YOUR patients.
If anyone has any questions – please feel free to email me at [email protected] and I will be happy to answer them. Don’t forget to find and like us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/MarylandParas to stay up on the latest news and upcoming events for the Maryland Para Section!
