THE
EXTRAVAGANT
AUTHOR
In 2008, Kimberly founded Positively Dressed- Dressing Teen Girls for Prom. In
2012, Kimberly launched a book called, “Nothing Beats A Failure But A Try: A
Memoir About My Three Husbands,” and “Event Planners: Tips & Strategies.” She
hosts an annual event called, “The Arts & Authors Extravaganza”.
MMIA What’s the one thing you wish
you knew when you started out?
KIMBERLY More of the fundamental aspect of starting a business. When
starting out, I didn’t have a business plan
or marketing plan. I thought registering
and getting certified through the state
was enough. But there is so much other
important paperwork that must be completed prior to running a business.
MMIA What part of your biz are you
most passionate about?
KIMBERLY Everything that I do is
based around helping someone. When
I help others, it always comes back tenfold. I love being my own boss and not
having to have my potential evaluated
by another by working a regular 9-5. I
know what I am capable of, and I know
that if I don’t work, I don’t eat. If I am
going to work extra hard, why not invest that time and energy in my own
dreams. So passion is a strong factor in
my life. If it doesn’t make me happy or
there isn’t a demand for what I am doing, I don’t pursue it.
MMIA How do you balance the roles
of entrepreneur and mom?
KIMBERLY I have two adult children
and one 10 year old. I don’t have babies anymore. I am really strict when
it comes to school work and grades,
so I am always there to do homework,
and get my daughter ready and off to
school. My husband helps out also, but

I feel it is my duty as a mother to make
sure that these things are being taken
care of. I work when my daughter is in
school, and I also work when she goes
to bed at night. If there are any meetings or anything that I have to go to in
the evenings, my mother keeps an eye
on her.
MMIA How do your children feel
about mommy being an entrepreneur?
KIMBERLY My children are very supportive of me being an entrepreneur.
My oldest two always come to my
events or help out with my projects.
My eldest daughter works in video and
my middle daughter works in sales. I
also love sales, and now I even have my
10 year old daughter wanting to write
books and make jewelry to sell. It is
very encouraging to see that I have a
great influence on them.
MMIA What are your views on moms
becoming entrepreneurs?
KIMBERLY I strongly suggest that
moms become entrepreneurs to keep
their sanity and peace of mind. We
need something to make us feel good
and to know that we are working towards something, also. We know what
our regular duties as mothers are, but
we need to pursue our dreams, too.
Otherwise, mommy will be lost. As
long as there is a strong balance between work and home, everything
should be just fine.
