THE
FINANCIAL
STYLIST
MMIA Why did you start your biz?
CARRIE I was seeing trends of people over-spending or hyper-spending,
and realized it had nothing to do with
their level of financial knowledge.
They knew what financial literacy was
and what they needed to do, but just
weren’t doing it. It was their habits
and their discipline that were keeping
them from achieving financial success. Many of the problems they were
facing, I had faced personally in my
own financial life, in college and immediately after college, and I wanted
to help them save themselves.
MMIA What’s the one thing you wish
you knew when you started out?
CARRIE I wish I knew more about the
power of a network and how to leverage
that, taking advantage of opportunities
to collaborate, and knowing when to
expand my brand and business.
MMIA What part of your biz are you
most passionate about?
CARRIE My favorite part is doing
speaking engagements. Everyone
walks away with a different perspective. You can literally have one person
tell two or three friends so they too
can receive information on how to
break the financial habits that aren’t
helping them achieve their goals and
replace them with new ones.
MMIA How do you balance the roles
of entrepreneur and mom?
CARRIE This is an everyday process,
and I use my magic formula to guide
me. God first, then my husband, then
my kids, and then my business. This
structure helps me never really neglect
my family for my business. They get
first priority. Does that mean I spend
less time on my business than other
entrepreneurs? Probably, but I am happy with my quality of life by limiting
the time I spend working! So I make
sure I’m at as many school events and
volleyball games as I can, and then,
stay up late to get my work done ;-)
MMIA How do your children feel
about mommy being an entrepreneur?
CARRIE They love it! They are proud
to know their mommy has her own
business, and I let them participate
often at my events so they get to see
me in action.
MMIA What are your views on moms
becoming entrepreneurs?
CARRIE I think it’s great. Women
are so dynamic to begin with; we run
households, raise children, help families grow and mature, solve problems,
and think out of the box. Being a
mom is a management position so we
are already naturally designed to be
awesome entrepreneurs!
