exclusive interview destiny THE designer 20 ENTREPRENEUR moms YOU’LL LOVE “Setting time aside for dedicated family time is also important so the entire family can unplug and enjoy each other’s company.” MMIA: Why did you decide to become an entrepreneur? STACIE: I was tired of feeling like my skills and talents weren’t being completely appreciated or utilized working for other people. If I was going to put in the extra effort, I wanted my family and I to be the beneficiary of the results. MMIA: How long did it take you to go from business idea to actually seeing income? STACIE: I was fortunate to start making money within my first 6 months in business but I didn’t start seeing a real profit until about 5 years of running my business full time. MMIA: Do you ever regret your decision to become a full-time entrepreneur? STACIE: There have been times when I questioned leaving a steady substantial income for an uncertain contract but the reward of seeing the direct fruits of my labor and the ability to design my own destiny is more rewarding. MMIA: How do you balance the roles of mommy and entrepreneur? STACIE: Balancing the roles of mommy and entrepreneur is not any easy task because both demand intense attention. I have been able to strike a balance by including my children in some decision making for the business and execution of some of my contracts. It makes it easier for them to understand when they can see the bigger picture. Setting time aside for dedicated family time is also important so the entire family can unplug and enjoy each other’s company. For instance we have family game night , go out to dinner or the movies, etc. MMIA: How do your children feel about mommy being an entrepreneur? STACIE: I ask them about their perception of what I do and it is very encouraging to hear their responses. They get it and they are proud of what I do to help others and actually remind me of my value when pricing my services.
