Recently as I was boarding a plane, the lady behind me said she was from St.
Thomas, Virgin Islands and was going to Chattanooga to just get away from the
chaos for a few days. The islands have been devastated by all of the hurricanes
that have swept through this season. She was an older lady traveling by
herself. She had never been to Chattanooga, but found a great deal online for a
weekend getaway. She was desperate to find peace and solitude, hot water and
electricity was a bonus. How desperate are we when it comes to finding peace
and solitude? I believe God wants us to get away from our chaotic lives so that
we too can find peace and solitude in His presence. I challenge you in the
upcoming new year to carve out time everyday and spend time with our Lord
and Savior. If this lady can fly thousands of miles to find her peace, surely you
can go to your quiet place and shut the door on all that’s around you and rest
in the Lord. “My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He
alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.”
