Polyglot : how to learn several foreign languages at the same time
Worldwide the ability to speak several foreign languages is considered to be a rule rather than an exception . In Switzerland they speak four state languages – German , French , Italian and even the little-known Rhaeto-Romance . In India , with its several hundreds of dialects , the main state languages are deemed to be Hindi and English . Even in Russia there exist quite a number of ethnic groups , representatives of which , besides speaking their native languages , are able to speak Russian fluently . So it ’ s entirely possible to speak several foreign languages – that is why the first thing to be done is to put off all the blocks like “ it ’ s impossible ” and “ I can ’ t ”. In Russia , without any doubts , the most popular foreign language is English , however speaking English is not a rare ability anymore – it ’ s time to start learning new languages , along with English ! Surely , concurrent efforts are always more complicated , especially in case of learning a foreign language , but today it is a necessity , fruits of which will sprout very quickly .

По этой причине учеба не должна носить половинчатый характер : что-то знаю , что-то не помню , что-то до конца не понял . В противном случае , вместо знаний очень быстро получите кашу из слов и правил для разных языков . Развитие ситуации в соответствии с таким негативным сценарием тем более вероятно , если изучать схожие между собой языки . Например , польский и украинский или португальский и испанский . Как это ни парадоксально , но одновременно проще изучать языки совершенно разных групп . На начальном этапе также желательно в один и тот же день не заниматься разными языками . Разделите неделю : например , понедельник , среда , пятница – « испанские » дни , а вторник , четверг и суббота – « английские ». В воскресенье попробуйте сделать микс – смешивать занятия разными языками нужно учиться постепенно . Если позволяют время и средства , после достижения среднего уровня знаний языка можно начинать регулярно погружаться в среду и при этом практиковать смешение занятий . Например , во время недельной поездки в Италию максимально практиковать итальянский и одновременно учить английский . Через некоторое время имеет смысл изменить контекст : поехать на какое-то время в Британию , активно пользоваться английским , но не забрасывать изучение итальянского . Таким образом , постепенно научитесь легко переключаться с одного языка на другой . Если сейчас поехать в « языковой » тур вы не можете , больше общайтесь с носителями ( переписка , Skype ) и смотрите фильмы и сериалы на нужном языке . Отличное погружение !

This situation is more likely to develop in a negative way if you study similar languages - for instance , Polish and Ukrainian or Portuguese and Spanish . Ironic , but it ’ s true that it ’ s easier to study languages from absolutely different groups . At the beginner level it is also desirable not to learn different languages on the same day . Divide the week : for example , Monday , Wednesday , Friday – « Spanish » days , and Tuesday , Thursday , and Saturday – « English ». On Sunday try to do a mixture – learning to mix lessons in different languages you should proceed carefully and step by step . If your time and funds support this , after having attained medium level knowledge of a language , you can start regular language immersion and practice mixed lessons . For example , during the week a trip to Italy to practice Italian foremost possibly , and learn English at the same time . Over time it ’ s reasonable to change the context : to go for some period to Great Britain to speak English intensively , but not neglecting Italian studies . And in such manner , step by step , you ’ ll learn to switch easily from one language to another . If at the moment you aren ’ t able to go for the “ language tour ”, communicate more with native speakers ( electronic correspondence , messaging , Skype ) and watch movies and series in the relevant language .
