And, of course, Father Frost!
November 18th is the birthday of Ded Moroz.
On this special day, Russian children send
congratulations to a special post office built
for the occasion or travel to Veliky Ustyug to
attend celebrations thrown in Ded Moroz’s
honor.
The beloved Ded Moroz, known in English as
Grandfather Frost or Father Frost, traditionally
celebrates his birthday in Veliky Ustyug. The
town in northern Russia has been Ded Moroz’s
home since 1998 and numerous relatives
come to congratulate the beloved man on
his special day. Santa Claus from Finland,
Chiskhan from Yakutia, Pakkayne from Karelia,
and Snegurochka from Kostroma all pay a
visit on November 18th.
We decided to make a stay at home of the
wizard of our childhood and make sure that
his existence is real. He has been living in the
city of Veliky Ustyug since 1999. The town is
small, a population runs up to 33000 people.

works on silver, weaving, painting on birchbark and forged iron.
And here she is, beautiful and fabulous
patrimony. Around there are the vast expanses
and plenty of fresh air. The place here is
amazing, tall pine trees, the snow was circling
in small flakes, the temperature goes below
ten degrees.
The moment you enter the gate, you realize
that you’re in a fairy tale. The patrimony
itself is very large. There are a huge palace,
the zoo, souvenir shops, carousels, cafes,
snow-covered spruce, Russian gatherings,
snowmobiling, Emelja’s stove, real reindeers,
entertainments, «trail of tales» with riddles
and contests, a greenhouse with exotic plants

is a garden room, chests with sweet gifts for
adults and children.
We entered the palace. There were many
rooms there. The throne room, the bedroom
with seven pillows on feather bed, rooms with
gifts from all parts of the world, the dressing
