However, if you’re the DIY type and are looking to cut costs by handling the job yourself – you may be interested to know that you don’t necessarily need to go it alone. For example, if you’re planning to rent your own moving truck, online services like HireAHelper will allow you to shop for and hire local movers that can assist with the loading and unloading portions of your move. GENERAL PACKING TIPS Most people think they should stuff and wrap their glasses and fine ceramics with paper - which is actually only part of the proper packing procedure. You should pack items such as pint glasses and teacups as pairs, oriented like shoes in a shoebox. Each should be individually wrapped - but you should also use larger sheets of packing paper to draw the breakables together into a tightly packed brick shape. This makes the breakables much more durable for even the most turbulent moves. There’s also a more efficient way to pack your clothes. Instead of taking the clothes off of their hanger, folding them up, and smashing them into moving boxes, you can just leave the clothes on hangers. Simply group together clothing (shirt with shirts, pants with pants), then divide them into sections of 10 hangers or less. Then buy a couple boxes of 30 gallon trash bags and some twisty ties. Take the trash bag and make a small hole in the middle of the bottom of the bag. Pull the hangers through the hole and pull the trash bag down over the clothes. Pull the drawstring tight at the bottom so all the clothes are secured inside. Then use the twisty tie to tie the hangers together. Voila, clothes ready to move. Give them a chance to sniff around, get acquainted with the terrain and the house itself. Keep them on a tight leash of course. Pets are always at risk to get scared and run away when they are in an unfamiliar place. By and large, give the pets an hour or so just to get themselves familiar with their new environment. Also, don’t forget to get fresh ID tags with your new address for your four-legged friends. If you’re considering moving insurance, you’re smart. Most reputable moving services will offer a form of insurance, called Full-Value Replacement Coverage, which covers (just like it sounds) the full value of every item listed in
