rently driving -- and what’s your dream car? [ m.ink ] hey, bonus of the special edition is that we can feature people that also have ink (or not!) and have little stories to tell about each one. Some people have ink like novels, but we can’t forget about the short stories [ jc ] thats sweet I love that c: i had no idea! the stories are a great idea [ jc ] yes for sure ! lots of physical work- which i love, but also the passion in cars drives the hard work . my first car was a 2000 ford mustang, Im currently driving a 1998 subaru legacy gt limited sedan- slow but i love the appearance, and the luxury. At the moment I cant afford anything with more power as a young driver with nine tickets.. [ jc ] this is my first interview im pretty stoked [ m.ink ] I am curious though -- you’re an auto mechanic by day. That sounds super fun, and a pretty closed boys-club. how did you get into that? [ jc ] yes I am ! I get asked that quite a bit. I w as an extremely shy and tomboyish girl throughout my highschool career.. meaning I did not quite always fit in. Often I was outcast when it came to being in any girl related friend groups so I tended to hangout more with the boys. Out of a whim, after my guy friends had been talking for a while about how they enjoyed auto class- I gave it a shot and suprisingly..loved it. All through highschool I was stabbing at random career ideas when the whole time it was right in front of my eyes. I signed up for a coop class which meant going to a placement garage half of the day and the other half in class. From then on my boss at coop and I got along quite well. He hired me on full time and it went from there i could not love my job more [ jc ] dream car hmm.. ~~ a long while passes ~~ [ jc ] I would have to say my dream car is a 1993 subaru gc8 sti. I have a whole colour scheme/ modification plan for when I can buy one of those already, after having this subaru Ive really gotten into these. Evo IV’s come very close! Im very much into the old import scene r34 Gtr’s E30 M3 Bmw’s. All cars that are coming to mind when I think of the phrase “dream car” [ m.ink ] you love those STI’s! All wheel drive, all the time. and NINE TICKETS? what on earth what did you do in that mustang? haha [ jc ] although before finding my placement i had been rejected [ jc ] not the most expensive or exotic cars, but most are right hand drive and I need to be quite wealthy to afford the insurance that comes with it . I do!! they are quite the work of art!! there are a couple around twice just for the fact that i was a female and that could “distract other workers” [ m.ink ] that’s so awesome. never had any girls in my shop classes. these are the barriers that need to be broken! and i know.. out west, one of my best friends was pretty much rejected as an electrician just because she was female. it’s sad, broken, and i’m hoping that we can turn this shit around in the next decade or so what’s your favourite service to do? “I can’t afford anything with more power as a young driver with nine tickets..” guelph, I die a little each time they pass by. Only thing that scares me about them is the headgasket leak issues with that boxer engine. Shouldnt be a problem if maintained meticulously though. YES awd alll the time you got that right [ jc ] I agree ! although I dont mind working with all guys (im used to it by now) but I agree!! The girls are missing out and the guys are too quick to judge ! thats horrible..... i feel for her. It sucks to be turned down simply because of gender. Ive been doing everything the guys have no problem the trades are awesome for everyone. Ive heard it is starting to get better though ! Hmm.. my favourite service.. thats a tough one! I am a very independant worker so typically I prefer getting a job that takes a large amount of time so i can work undisturbed Ive been trying to name several services in my head to spark one i like more... but I honestly love the majority of them!! although Id say I really enjoy power steering racks , and engine cover gaskets [ jc ] yes nine... i was a wreckless teenager, they are a colourdul range of tickets aha been close to losing my license, but I live for a thrill, and cars are my happines and i am also being a lot safer now aha! [ m.ink ] goodness -- well they should be falling off soon, right? I mean, you might not be able to break 100km/h with your Legacy [ m.ink ] And, right-hand drive, (or the ‘proper’ side, according to the old Top Gear guys) will be quite a challenge to operate over on this side of the pond. But there’s nary a more qualified a girl to drive an old boxer than you in Guelph. [ jc ] brakes I really enjoy as well and bearing , front suspension as well, but Ive pretty much gotten those down pat now so they are pretty quick to do [ jc ] i like anything that i can continue to learn from- not that is the same throughout most vehichles [ jc ] well hopefully! I think I have a year left. unfortunatly had a 10km over ticket a year ago that put me right back to the begginning oh Ive been around 150km/h in the legacy, just has a really slow pick up! and I probably shouldnt be pushing her aha [ jc ] very tough question :’) [ m.ink ] yahh.. you gotta be a car person too. What are you curM.INK | Volume 3 12
