So when the team told me that I had to give up Facebook, a little voice in my head was screaming ‘nooo’. I went cold turkey by deleting the app the night before. One thing that I learnt very early in was how regularly I flick through my timeline out of boredom. I kept finding myself lingering inside my social media folder and hovering where Facebook used to be. Despite the lure of those addictive cat videos, I restrained and came out of my Facebook-free day unscarred. This detox reinforced the importance of taking a breather from social media, even if it’s your job. I realised my brain has too many tabs open. It was easy to resist in the morning because my mind was fresh, but after a stressful day I wanted to not think. The best way that I knew how to do that was turning on Netflix. By dinner time I was done. As soon as I got up to cook, I set my laptop up and pressed play. I thought at first not watching would be easy. I mean, I’m not addicted.
