From the Editor Volume 2, Issue 1 Independence Welcome to the first issue of our second year at Mindset Self-Defense, and thank you to all our readers for your support! To all who have attended our classes, workshops and lectures, I applaud you for taking responsibility for your own personal safety! What does taking responsiblity for your own personal safety really mean? Clearly, it means shifting the odds of attack on women by increasing thier situational awareness, thereby reducing opportunities for an attack to take place. It also means possessing a personal level of practiced skill sets to counter an attack with something more effective than panic. However, taking such resposibility means so much more. For one thing, it means a broader experience of personal independence. Aquiring self-defense skill sets opens doors of life experience. It means you are better equipped to handle the world, and that your world can increase in size more safely, be that of your own local environment or elsewhere. Taking responsiblity for your own personal protection also means you do not have to rely on others or chance for your safety. It means you can do more of what you want when you want. It means you are becoming more independent, more free. Aquiring personal protection skills means that you are not OK with the status quo that women are victims of attack, domestic violence or rape, and you are doing your part to prevent this from happening.
