Building Connections, Advocating for Manufacturing’s
Future During MMA Legislative Day
The two-event, power-packed MMA Legislative Day
gave manufacturers a full day of engagement with elected
officials, including Senate and House Leadership and top
Administration staff, on issues ranging from tax policy and
talent development to regulatory issues and the Governor’s
vision for manufacturing in Michigan. Attendees then got to
continue networking and sharing their stories during the
evening’s Legislative Reception where MMA presented the
Legislator of the Year Award to four deserving champions.

Governor Whitmer’s senior advisor for Michigan prosperity,
Doug Ross, presented MMA with the Governor’s proclamation
of 9/29-10/5/19 to be Michigan Manufacturing Week. Mr. Ross
also met with manufacturers to share the Administration’s
plans to improve workforce training and career awareness.
MMA awarded its highest public policy honor — the Legislator of the Year
Award — to four deserving industry champions: Representative Triston Cole,
Senator Jim Stamas, Representative Beth Griffin and Senator Ken Horn.
EGLE Director Liesl Clark discussed the environmental and
regulatory issues facing the state and how manufacturing
fits with the Governor’s future vision for Michigan.
The attendees of MMA Legislative Day don’t just talk about advocacy —
they get out and do it. Most of the day was spent in exclusive meetings
with legislative leadership discussing priority issues.
Representative Jason Sheppard was just one of the many
elected officials who set aside time to meet with manufacturers
and discuss the issues impacting their business.
