Lacks Enterprises Named
Supplier of the Year
Manufacturing took center
stage during the 2018 Michigan
International Auto Show as Lacks
Enterprises, Inc. was named the
Grand Rapids New Car Dealers
Association’s “2018 Automotive
Supplier of the Year”.
“Each year, automobile manu-
facturers incorporate new technology
to advance quality, safety and
performance,” said Tom Makarewicz,
president of the Grand Rapids New
Car Dealers Association (GRNCDA).
“Not only does Lacks bring
innovation to the global automobile
industry, but just as important to
our Grand Rapids community, the
company has a strong family,
employee and community focus.”
Lacks Enterprises, Inc., an
MMA member since 1970, is a
family-owned manufacturer of
decorative trim for the automotive
and appliance industries and
employs over 2,600 people.
“We continue to explore and
innovate advanced technologies while
pursuing continuous improvement
and service enhancements for the
industries that we serve, the people
and families that we employ, and
the community in which we reside,”
said Jim Green, executive director
of human resources for Lacks. “It’s
very meaningful to be recognized
by our community and peers.”
Identity Theft Prevention
Fact Sheets Updated
The Michigan Talent Investment
Agency (TIA) announced in late
January that the Unemployment
Insurance Agency (UIA) has released
updated fact sheets for manufacturers
and individuals that face potential
threats of identity theft.
“ID theft is a growing crime
occurring in all sectors, including
unemployment fraud,” said Wanda M.
Stokes, director of TIA. “By taking
a few simple steps individuals and
businesses can prevent, or at least
limit the damage, if there is an ID
theft attempted.”

Among the suggested steps
manufacturers can take to protect
employees and the business include:
• Protect your employees’
personal information.
• Do not use Social Security
Numbers or driver’s license
numbers to identify employees
on internal documents,
correspondence, etc.
• Use an alternate employee
ID number.
• Limit access to personal
information to those employees
who need it to perform their
job duties.
• Don’t mail, e-mail or fax
correspondences to an outside
source that includes personal
identifying information.
• Don’t leave any personal
information in plain view in
the work place.
• Don’t share your web account
credentials where personal
information is utilized.
“These tip sheets also provide
useful information for individuals
and businesses if they believe a
fraudulent claim has been filed,”
Stokes added. “The most important
thing everyone can do is be vigilant
on any suspicious information
involving an unemployment claim.”
Go to MMA’s website and
search “Identity Theft” for more
information and to access these
updated fact sheets.
