General Motors Stays Committed to Michigan , Invests $ 20 Million
General Motors continues to invest in the company ’ s Bay City Powertrain plant , announcing last month an additional investment of $ 20 million to assist in retaining 15 positions at the plant . The investment will assist in the company ’ s production of camshafts and other engine components .
“ This investment reflects the excellent workforce at Bay City Powertrain , whose commitment to building benchmark quality engine components for many of GM ’ s award-winning vehicles is visible every day ,” said John Lancaster , powertrain plant manager at the Bay City location .
The announcement comes less than a year after GM invested $ 118 million into the plant , an investment which resulted in 29 new jobs and 67 retained positions .
Since 2010 , GM has committed to investing $ 269.4 million into the Bay City plant and $ 8.3 billion in the U . S . over a four-year period beginning in 2015 , while adding 3,300 jobs .

National Association of Manufacturers ( NAM ) President and CEO Jay Timmons delivered his 2017 State of Manufacturing address to a sold-out crowd at the Detroit Economic Club in Detroit on Friday , 2 / 24 / 17 , highlighting manufacturing ’ s creation of 600,000 Michigan jobs and a contribution of $ 2.17 trillion to the U . S . economy .
“ Manufacturers are adapting and improving every day ,” said Timmons . “ We are changing the conversation to emphasize what modern manufacturing means today : upscaling jobs , upskilling workers and creating pathways for enhancing individual talent , securing futures and increasing wages .”
Timmons called on the new administration and Congress to stimulate manufacturing by reforming the U . S . tax code and regulatory systems and investing in our nation ’ s infrastructure .
“ When it comes to our top priorities on issues like regulatory reform , tax reform and infrastructure investment , we have a lot of common ground with the Trump administration and the new Congress ,” Timmons said . “ There are
more jobs just waiting to be created if we can get those things done .”
Timmons was joined by Chuck Hadden , MMA ’ s president & CEO .
“ Manufacturing ’ s role in shaping America ’ s future cannot be underestimated ,” said Hadden . “ Hearing from our partners at the federal level provided Michigan manufacturers a broad look at where the industry is headed , the challenge we face as a nation , and the unique role Michigan can play in promoting manufacturing ’ s long-term competitiveness .”
NAM President Timmons addressed a sold-out crowd in Detroit as he delivered the “ State of Manufacturing ” in February .
