Melanie Cantor defies the notion that women become invisible after fifty. Scouted by a casting director as she sat minding her own business waiting for a train at King’s Cross, last year she became a poster girl for the Dove Real Beauty campaign, something she had never expected in her youth let alone having just turned sixty. “I thought the girl who accosted me was joking. The first thing she asked was if I had ever been an actor or a model,” to which my response was “Have you seen me stand up.” Melanie, it has to be said, is no giant. Perhaps Kylie size sums her up. But several words of flattery later, she agreed to be put forward for the campaign and the rest is…well, it’s on instagram!
