My hair is very thin and I have spent a fortune on hair extensions. Last month I finally took them out  and now my hair feels thinner than ever. It’s not doing my self-esteem any good and I’m pretty depressed about it. Is there anything I can do  to thicken my hair? What about a hair transplant…after all, if it’s good enough for Donald Trump…I really don’t want to go back to extensions as they are so high maintenance.

Thinning hair and hair-loss can be very upsetting for women and have a devastating effect on confidence. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Mesotherapy injections to promote growth and thicken hair have been around for a while now and as you mention there is the much more invasive surgical option of hair transplantation.

But there have been great advances recently with stem cell therapy. A very exciting treatment is the Regenera micro grafting hair transplantation that is now available in the UK by Dr Liakas at Vie Aesthetics.

This is a one off treatment in which a very small sample of skin tissue in the lower back of the scalp is removed, then processed to extract the stem cells. These are then injected in the top and front part of the scalp. The whole process takes about an hour; there is no cutting, no general aesthetic, no pain and the hair growth stars showing after 4 weeks.
