’Wearable pieces of Art’’

YANA MARKOVA

From the big screen at Cannes to the pages of HELLO!, L’étoile Magazine and now MilliOnAir Global Magazine; meet milliner, Yana Markova.

Trained in fashion design at the renowned Ural State Academy of Architecture and Arts in Russia; Moscow-based Accessories and Costume Artist Yana Markova focuses on bringing her works of art to life in the form of unique 3D head pieces, inspired by historical individuals such as Alexander the Great to 18th century ornaments. Her creations are made from materials such as plastic, satin, precious metals, jewels and other wonderful pieces of fabrics. She began creating hats after completing her debut fashion collection, ‘Have No Fear’, which was received with critical acclaim. Since then, she’s become Europe’s go-to for extravagant celebratory pieces to showcase from the stage to the pages of high fashion editorial. Her favourite piece is an incredible 3D headpiece made of diamante jewels and bent in the shape of a tiger.

Her pieces are totally unique, ranging from £500 to £1,600. Her current clientele consists of Russian celebrities, performers and fashion editors.

‘’Her hats are so stunning and dramatic that they can actually take your breath away’’. MilliOnAir Magazine

Despite having a huge following and local celebrities in Moscow wearing Yana’s designs, being showcased in LA and Cannes, Yana is yet to be recognised in the UK…Until now…Where she has been picked up by Forward PR which one of London’s leading fashion PR agencies.

We caught up with Yana on her very first visit to London with her Mum and chatted about her beautiful pieces.

MOA: Why did you decide to start designing headpieces?

YM: I want to be the Russian Philip Treacy and my passion for creating something special in headpieces outweighed following the design of clothes.

MOA: You call yourself an artist rather than a designer, why is that?

YM: For me it is a collaboration of my knowledge, inspirations and creations. My pieces are more than fashion, they are ‘works of art’, so yes for me, it is more of an art form than just straightforward design.
