The treatment is not without some discomfort but if you can handle something like waxing then it’s a walk in the park – and my pain threshold is not great.

The first step is to have an anesthetic cream applied to the area being treated for 45 minutes. Once that’s removed, the treatment begins.

It took around 15 minutes for each ear, but would be longer for a full face-lift or for eyes. I found some areas were more painful than others and there was slight smell of burning, which reminded me of the dentist. But Dr Liakas’ soothing bedside manner kept me calm.

When I looked at myself in the mirror afterwards I was a bit shocked – it looked like I’d been burnt down both sides of my face! I began to regret being so vain over a few lines.

Vicky, the clinic manager, gently rubbed some arnica cream to help heal the skin and gave me some make-up (Vichy Derma Blend) to cover the area the next day. It is important to look after the treated area while it heals and to avoid alcohol.
