A Day in the Life of

Helen Mary Perkins

AoR, RAoA, BAUK and BAA

ENERGY levels are high as Helen dashes in after a busy Monday morning at the local hospice where she is team leader for a group of volunteer complementary therapists. She also manages a small caseload of patients alongside developing the complementary therapy programme across all day services.

A natural extension of her long-held interest in palliative care, this demanding part-time role requires a skilful blend of mentoring and motivation to ensure the volunteers feel valued and trusted to work within such a sensitive environment.

Helen’s caring and compassionate nature combined with the highest professional standards make her ideally suited to this role, just one element on a fascinating CV.

Making time for a cup of green tea – she avoids milk so herbal teas are favourite – she spends a few minutes with her PA to update on the day’s orders from her online shop Bowen Supplies by Helen.

Helen carries out reflexology on hands as well as feet

The career path of complementary therapist Helen Mary Perkins, has taken her from family-run beauty salon to award-winning entrepreneur… via the Australian outback where she worked in often challenging conditions with the Royal Flying Doctor Service.

This unconventional route has brought many opportunities and helped shape Helen’s approach to holistic health and wellbeing. She especially enjoys training and inspiring the next generation of therapists while running her own clinical practice and fulfilling a variety of speaking engagements.

We caught up with Helen in between classes and just ahead of a trip to Australia where she is combining business with a well-deserved vacation.
