BEFORE
MAKING IT THEIR OWN
The couple tapped interior designer Greg Feller of Hudson Home in upstate New York to helpwith decorating the space . They had worked with Feller on their former home , also in Short Hills . Inspiration for the earthy color palette came from shells the family collected on their annual summer vacations to Martha ’ s Vineyard . In the new sunken family room ( above ), Feller came up with the idea of adding stained bead board overhead , which adds warmth to the room with its 14-foot ceilings . A craftsman they found outside Philly made the piece the television rests on . Behind it is the pantry . CSM Artand Frame in Chatham framed all the artwork in the house .
Previous owners ( Debra and Jonathan are only the thirdfamily to live here ) had removeda front porch to enlarge the living room . The couple reversed that and added the porch back . Their contractor , James Loescher , noticed from the outside of the house that the transom windows over the living room windows had been covered ( see below ). That was remedied quickly after they came inside and poked a hole in the sheetrock revealing the colorful , gorgeous glass beneath it .
