FLOWER POWER
Nothing transforms a room like flowers,
greens and candles. For our fashion shoot,
Jaime and Dara Chesley, sisters and owners
of the floral designers Parker’s Petals,
converted the main dining room at
Common Lot into a celebratory winter
wonderland – in hot, sticky August. With
a little effort, you can create similar looks
at home. Jaime and Dara shared tips for
creating simple holiday flower arrangements.

WHAT ARE THE STEPS FOR MAKING A
HOLIDAY FLOWER ARRANGEMENT AT HOME?
• Keep it simple
• Start with holiday greens
• Add one color flower
• Use accents such as pinecones,
ornaments and candles
WHAT MATERIALS DO YOU NEED?
For a table arrangement like the one
featured in the Common Lot shoot we
used:
• Birch logs and cuts
• Moss and greens
• Burlap and twine to wrap around
the Mason jars
• One type of flower (optional)
• Votive candles and holders
• Succulents
• Mini holiday trees
• Holiday lights
WHERE DO YOU GET THE SUPPLIES?
• Birch logs and cuts: These can be found
at a hardware store, craft store, Etsy or
your own backyard
• Holiday greens and moss: Trader Joe’s,
grocery stores and local garden
centers will have them. Moss can
be purchased at a craft store
• Burlap/jute and twine for Mason jars:
Local hardware store or craft store
• Succulents: Trader Joe’s, grocery store,
Home Depot
• Mini trees: craft store
• Lights on mini trees:Target, crafts store
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO
MAKE THIS ARRANGEMENT?
It depends on the table size but roughly
30 minutes to an hour. Take your time
and have fun with it.

HOW LONG WILL THE ARRANGEMENT LAST?
It should last a ll of December through
the New Year. The greens will eventually
dry but should remain green for a while.
WHAT ARE SOME TRICKS TO
MAKE IT LOOK SPECIAL?
Add your personal ornaments. Old photos
of your kids with Santa is a nice touch.
WHAT ARRANGEMENTS DO YOU LIKE
FOR HOLIDAYS?
We love doing long aisle runners that
will last for the holiday season. We also
love using battery-operated lights with
timers for candles.
