appy Holidays! No matter
your religious persuasion,
the brisk weather, bare
trees and shorter days
mean the winter holidays
are coming. Some of us
enjoy staying home and entertaining,
while others want to go out and celebrate.
Either way, it’s hard to resist the urge to do
something to mark the arrival of the winter
months. Whether you spend your time
expressing gratitude, performing acts of
community service, or happily indulge in
the spirit of gift giving, the holiday season
brings on a buzz of activity and strong,
celebratory feelings.
In this issue, you will find food, flowers,
fashion and recipes galore. We have a story
about Interfaith Hospitality Network, a
coalition that works to keep homeless families together and finds them new housing
and jobs as well as academic and emotional
support. There is a funny, heart-warming
story about dogs and the friendships they
help us maintain with other humans. For
fun gifts and fashion ideas, check out our
gift guide and fashion spread, which we
shot at Common Lot, the fabulous new
restaurant in downtown Millburn. Jaime
Presley of Parker’s Petals turned the restaurant into a winter wonderland and shares
her secrets to making your own beautiful
holiday arrangements. Common Lot chef
and owner Ehren Ryan shares his favorite
holiday recipes, as does Sajal Hamilton,
the culinary coordinator at Bloomingdale’s.
If you’re in the mood to go out for
something casual, we’re craving the fantastic sandwiches and salads being offered
by Slamwich Scratch Kitchen in Madison.
