BUZZ LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER When former fashion editor Eve Golden opened Bungalow eight years 357 Millburn Ave. ago, it quickly became a top destination 973-379-8320 for women seeking the latest and best bungalow63.com in clothing, jewelry and accessories. Her new boutique, SCOUT, is geared toward the daughters of these women. Golden describes Scout, open since July, as “a fun, affordable little haven for a teen or pre-teen girl. We carry a lot of separates, such as fun printed leggings, denim, athletic leisure wear and T-shirts with fun sayings.” Noting that jewelry always sells well at Bungalow, she also offers a wide selection at Scout. The two shops are two doors apart, which makes Golden very happy: “I expect a lot of crossover from Bungalow customers.” SCOUT 286 Essex St. (973) 376-6061 saigon-cafe.biz 22 MILLBURN • SHORT HILLS MAGAZINE FALL 2016 VIETNAMESE CUISINE Hoa Doan and Andy Vo, the husband and wife team who own Salon la Mode on Millburn Avenue, have branched into the restaurant business and opened SAIGON CAFÉ in the old Bella’s Bakery building. There is indoor and outdoor seating, a bakery selling Vietnamese pastries, caramelized flan and macaroons, as well as smoothies and ACAI bowls. There is also a full menu of Vietnamese appetizers and entrees, including pho (a Vietnamese rice noodle soup), vermicelli (thin spaghetti served with crushed peanuts, chicken, beef, shrimp, pork or tofu), and banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich made on a baguette and served with pickled daikon, jalapeno, cilantro and protein of your choice.) “We have space upstairs so we can expand if we need to,” says Hoa. Try their Vietnamese cold brew coffee. “Do you like it strong? It’s strong!” Andy says, laughing as he displays the large metal container he brews it in. The coffee was strong, delicious, rich and sweetened by condensed milk. “Come back tomorrow,” Andy says. “Come every day!” SCOUT: ANNE-MARIE CARUSO; SAIGON CAFÉ: LAURA ZINN FROMM SAIGON CAFÉ
