preventing the emergence of any hint of political opposition to their respective regimes, no matter how benign
or remote a seeming challenge might be.
Perhaps more significant, the specter of Lenin’s vindictive ruthlessness toward political opponents has also
now become characteristic of many so-called nonviolent
political activist groups operating in stable political states
in the West. These use Leninist-style intimidation tactics, which, though they may not employ the same levels
of violence as used by the Cheka and the Brownshirts,
nevertheless reflect Cheka intolerance and methodology in their single-minded efforts to stifle political opposition and the threat of alternate compe
