I love doing stuff myself. For instance, I’d rather walk for 30 minutes than wait five minutes for a bus, even if the bus would ultimately get me to my destination faster. I prefer cooking my own meals, preparing my own taxes, and mowing my own lawn. I don’t want to rely on somebody else if I can help it, but sometimes, I just have no other choice. I would not remove my own wisdom teeth, repair my own car, or single-handedly construct my own home.
There are some things that are literally impossible for me to do on my own. And there are other things that I could potentially achieve but where doing so would be a terrible idea. For either of these reasons, I know my only options are to leave something undone or enlist the help of others.
