1. Be a neat freak.

When looking for decorations, you’ll want to make sure you are looking for items that do not portray a certain set of beliefs. Potential homebuyers want to be able to envision themselves living in the home, so displaying classic, yet nonspecific holiday decorations such as wreaths, candles, and festive plants will allow for a welcoming and cheerful environment. However, be sure not to distract from the main features of the house with your decorations, as you’ll still want to show off the home’s charm. Large items like Christmas trees are not only too holiday-specific, they also prevent the homebuyer from seeing the true potential of a space. Smaller items such as garlands over the fireplace mantle encompass the holiday season tastefully.

1. Keep it simple

Nothing creates nostalgia for the holiday season more than a batch of freshly baked treats. Baking cookies or leaving out some hot chocolate or cider will instantly make your guests feel right at home. If you decide to use candles as part of your festive decorations, light them up and fill your open house with the holiday scents. But remember to use lighter, fresher scented candles to keep the overall ambiance clean and not drown the home in overpowering scents. Light the fireplace if possible, and consider buying some woven throws to place on the couch for an extra-cozy ambiance.

2. Illuminate the senses

If the weather outside is frightful, you’ll want to take extra precautions to ensure your potential homebuyers are safe and sound. Shovel the driveway and clear all walkways of ice. As the days get darker, leave on the front lights and buy some solar-powered pathway lights to illuminate a safe path for visitors.

3. Safety first
