Gyro Fest aids Puerto Rico relief effort
the organizers for the event.
“Our goal is to have a prosperous
event...to come together as a family and to
help each other when in need. That is the
definition of family,” John Oubaris said.
Clairbel Oubaris added she has family
in Puerto Rico who were personally
affected by the hurricane.
“There is a church event every year. We
had seen what happened down there and
this event seemed like a good idea,” John
said, “many of our members are from
Greece, an island just like Puerto Rico.”
John Forbes, a Parish council member
for the church and an organizer of the
event, shared his thoughts about the
Puerto Rican situation.
“There simply cannot be enough aid,”
he said “ and we should all try to help in
any way we can.”
Many people showed up throughout the
day to support the event and its cause.
“Our goal is to make as much as we
can,” Forbes said “There is no number
that is high enough.”
Saint Nicholas is still seeking donations
for Puerto Rico hurricane relief. They
may be dropped off at their location at 19
Fullerton Avenue in Newburgh.
