Blending biodiesel
Currently 10% biodiesel is required to be
blended with #2 diesel fuel from April 1 to Sep-
tember 30 each year, with the blend lowered to
B5 for the colder weather months of October
through March. The statute now reads that the
mandate would move to B20 on May 1, 2018.

fi cient fuel and/or feedstock supply, adequate blending infrastruc-
ture, and the existence of federal standards for mandated blends.
When do we start
blending winter fuels?
We are starting to get requests for winter blending of diesel fuel. Right now we utilize most of our
tanks for summer fuel, but we always maintain some #1 diesel year-round. This allows us to make a
special blend if needed. After harvest, we will start placing blended and additive-treated fuel in our
storage tanks for the winter.

There are cases – such as a generator that may not use fuel for several months – that we want
to make sure there is a correct blend of fuel in the tank to ensure the reliable starting and effi cient
